U.S journalist arrested in Indonesia faces possible prison sentence

Philip Jacobson was arrested in Indonesia for supposedly violating a visa law in regards of having an expired visa. Jacobson is being accused of breaking that law in which the government is saying that he was in the country with an expired visa. Jacobson, who reports on a environmental-news agency Mongabay, was arrested last Tuesday and was able to be set on bail and now faces either deportation or a possible prison sentence in Indonesia. Indonesia's Prime Minister states that Jacobson did not have a proper visa for journalists but Jacobson's lawyer is putting the defense saying that Jacobson was not their for any journalistic business rather he was there for a former colleague that lives in the country. Jacobson has been barred to leave the city by the government so they can continue with the trial. The most possible outcome is that Jacobson gets deported.

Epidemic from China

A deadly virus has been spreading in Asia called the Coronavirus, which is a respiratory virus that many doctors have found it in common with another virus called SARS. Seventeen people have already fell victim to this virus and it has spread rapidly to the point where The WHO and the CDC have been really observant on this virus. Just recently the virus has made it to the United States already claiming victim to a Washington State native. The Chinese government has been silent and quickly to cover up the controversy. The Chinese people have been disappointed expecting that it would change how it would handle situations like these instead of just censuring them and blocking information to the public. Comparing how the Chinese government handled SARS to now there is some form of difference. For example there Public Health services have changed and the Chinese economy is doing way much better than it was when it was trying to handle the SARS epidemic.

Birth rates fall in China

The People's Republic of China has been suffering with a falling birth rate for almost six decades and is struggling to promote younger couples to have children. Since the removal of China's two-child policy, which removes the restriction of having one child and no longer sanctions the couple for having more than one child, Younger Chinese are no longer having children because they see it as a burden to have children in their relationships. This is also another result from a higher rate of women now attending universities and graduating and being able to attain careers which give them a sense of financial security. Chinese women no longer seek financial security from their significant others, which makes them to not prioritize child bearing or they no longer see the need of having children at all. This low birth rate has now put China's pension under risk since there are no longer people having kids and with a high older population there are less people replacing the aging work force which will make pensions dry up by 2035.
